Heatshield HP db Sniper™ Sound Insulation
Details
Heatshield Products db Sniper™ is the premier product to block road noise in your ride. At just 1/4" thick, this composite is engineered to block and reflect high energy, low-frequency, road noise below 200MHz. db Sniper™ consists of a closed neoprene foam layer that is bonded to a dense vinyl barrier.
The neoprene foam layer creates an "air-spring" that floats the dense layer of vinyl. This air-spring allows for the proprietary vinyl to reflect the high energy sound waves. It also prevents the energy from passing through the dense layer, in effect, creating a "floating sound shield". The foam layer doesn't absorb or filter sound; it is far too thin to absorb high-energy, low-frequency sound waves. Question and verify any company promoting a foam barrier in this way.
Using only 25% sound dampening coverage is a myth! You dampeners should cover at least 50% of the vibrating surface, starting from the center of the panel and radiating to the outside edge. 75% coverage will yield even better results and 100% coverage will maximize the performance of the db Suppressor™. Do not stack layers! This is a waste of your time, money, and material. One layer is all that is required to effectively dampen a panel.
Note: db Sniper™ should be installed with the foam layer on the vehicle surface, aimed at the sound source, and the vinyl side facing up. This shield is designed to be used on flat and gently curved surfaces. For surfaces with severe irregularities consider using db Shield™ instead.

Heatshield db Sniper™ Installation:
Horizontal Surfaces
- Take note of the location of any seat belt bolts, wire harnesses or other mounting bolts.
- Measure the surface to be covered and transfer measurements to the vinyl side of the db Sniper™. If using poster board, transfer to it first and test fit templates to ensure fitment.
- Install into position and make sure it will not interfere with any mechanical components.
- Although not necessary for floor pans, you can use spray adhesive now (ensure adequate ventilation). Apply to both the body panel and db Sniper™, allowing to get tacky before installing the shield firmly into place.
- You can now tape the seams with db Shield™ or duct tape.
- Done!
Vertical Surfaces
- Measure the surface to be covered and transfer measurements to the vinyl side of the db Sniper™. If using poster board, transfer to it first and test fit templates to ensure fitment.
- Be sure to clean the mounting surfaces with cleaning and degreasing them. Give the panel one final wipe with isopropyl alcohol, pre-paint cleaner, or other non-residue cleaner.
- Although not necessary for floor pans, you can use spray adhesive now (ensure adequate ventilation). Apply to both the body panel and db Sniper™, allowing to get tacky before firmly pressing the shield into place and holding for a few seconds to establish a bond.
- If you wish to use mechanical fasteners, be sure to use large head washers or rivets to hold in place.
- You can now tape the seams and edges with db Shield™ or duct tape.
- Done!
